Effect of oat processing on the glycaemic and insulin responses in horses

The authors evaluated the effects of different oat processing techniques on the plasma glucose and insulin response in 6 horses (aged: 4-15 y). The horses were fed according to a cross-over design: untreated oats, finely ground, steam flaked and popped oats. Oat feeding resulted in a higher mean plasma glucose and insulin respose but there were no clear effects of oat processing on the measured parameters.
