The Senior mix contains ingredients that are not too hard to chew. This offers horses with impaired chewing ability the opportunity to stay at proper weight with a reasonable number of kilos of feed. This amount is normally a maximum of 1 kg for every 100 kg of live body weight. The inclusion of puffed grains and easily digestible pellets, which are carriers of easily absorbable proteins, greatly assists in keeping feed consumption within certain limits while maintaining proper condition.
The vitality of a horse is often a question of breed. Hot-blooded horses tend to maintain a more youthful appearance far longer than most coldbloods or warmbloods. As a general rule, however, it is safe to say that a horse is turning into a senior as it approaches the age of 20. Having said that, it is the overall health condition of a horse that is the overriding element when deciding the right rations and the choice of feed. It is not until the horse starts showing specific signs of old age, such as losing weight and difficulty shedding, that it becomes advisable to introduce Strucomix Senior.
"The biggest horse I saw the change in was my grand prix horse. I started feeding him Cavalor® Strucomix Senior and Cavalor® Endurix, and the results were incredible. He lost his potbelly, he toned up a bit, and he handled the stress level of going Grand Prix well. He won seven out of nine Grand Prix's and his recovery time is now incredible. He's a heavy horse and he usually would be dragging for three or four days after a summer competition and he doesn't have those recovery times anymore. He's responded incredibly to it and had a better season at Grand Prix than at levels I and II. His response to Cavalor is what got me sold on the feed. He's one of those horses that gives and gives and gives and it was important to me to find something for him to ease the struggle of him getting the nutrients he needed for him to do his job for me."
Grand Prix Rider and Trainer Christine Betz
"The reason I started using Cavalor was I had a mare that was a really bad eater and it was hard to keep weight on her. I talked to the rep and he asked me to try Cavalor. So I tried a bag and she started to get a little bit better the first week and after the second week she started to be much more interested in her food. She loved the food, got fat, was shiny and healthy, so I decided to switch all the horses to Cavalor." - Originally on Cavalor® Strucomix Senior
John Zambrano - Barn Manager for Peter Lombardo, Cavalor Champion
"I can say it made my ulcer prone mare much happier. Her digestive system improved on Cavalor® Strucomix Senior more than with other grains she was on." International Show Jumper, Simon Nizri
" I have my 20 yr old Grand Prix school master on the Cavalor® Strucomix Senior,
and he looks as great as he did as when he was competing! My students
all get to learn how to piaffe and passage on him, and can never believe
how old he is! " - J.J. Tate, Cavalor Champion
"Cavalor Feed is a dream come true! I lived in Europe with my horses and my horses looked and felt so fantastic on the natural feed available there. On the East Coast I have been struggling to find a healthy grain mix without all the processed additives. All my horses enjoy Cavalor's tastey feed, it gives them long lasting strength to work but does not provide focus problems and energy spurts. I feel good feeding my horses something that is healthy and nutritious and made for horses complicated digestive system. From my 3 year old to my 21 year old grand prix horse Cavalor Feeds have all of my horses looking shiny, strong and feeling great!"
"I just switched my two horses to Cavalor. One is a retired TB mare, former upper level eventer and she is a very, very picky eater; leaves her grain more often than not. In the morning, she would eat about 1/4 of her grain. She would eat a little more at lunch, and then finish the rest at dinner time. We now have to wait for her to finish her Cavalor feed! I can even put medicine in her Cavalor feed and she will eat it! She is currently on Cavalor Strucomix Senior."
I have attached pics of my 13 year old APHA mare Bergen Bar Bunny aka Tiara before and after Cavalor Feed. If anyone ever doubts the impact Cavalor feed will have on your performance horse just take a look at the pics of my mare. Her before pic was taken during prime rodeo season so she was very fit. The after pic was just 30 days after starting Cavalor feed and as you can see she has more weight and muscle mass than she had even in the height of competition season. I had not changed anything in her routine other than the feed. I was able to discontinue feeding all supplements also. She has more muscle mass than she has ever had in the 10 years I have owned her. She is calm and ready to work every day.
The De Pelsmaeker family, proud owners of Whippersnapper, were at their wits’ end. Their horse was very thin and they had already tried everything. After consultation with the Veterinary Clinic De Bosdreef, it appeared that Whippersnapper was glucose intolerant, and they could not get it under control.
After contacting Cavalor, a ration of the new Cavalor® FiberForce feed was proposed. Cavalor® FiberForce has the lowest sugar and starch content of all of the commercialized feed mixtures on the market. After 6 weeks, the ration was adjusted to ½ Cavalor® FiberForce and ½ Cavalor® Strucomix Senior. This was supplemented with a course of Cavalor® Digest to regularize the intestinal flora and Cavalor® OilMega to support the animal’s general health.
Four months after the family had given up hope, things are going extremely well with Whippersnapper. So well, in fact, that he is in top form and won the 1.35 m for juniors at CSIJ Lommel [Belgian show jumping event] at the beginning of May!
Congratulations to the owner and also thanks especially to De Bosdreef Veterinary Clinic! If you have a horse with a problem that leaves you in despair, you can always turn to Cavalor for nutritional advice. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or go to www.mycavalor.com.
"I grew up on a farm with an equine veterinarian as a father and cannot remember a time when I did not own horses. I went to college at Auburn University where I earned a BS in Animal Science and my DVM and I have been practicing veterinary medicine for 12 years. When I started playing polo six years ago I fed my horses Purina Strategy. I trusted the company and I was very familiar with their research in animal nutrition. Because I frequently advise my clients not to make changes in an animal's nutrition unless there is a good reason to do so I was very reluctant to make a change myself. A Cavalor representative started talking to me about Cavalor over a year ago but I really was not interested in switching feed as my ponies were doing great. I continued talking to Libby and did some research on my own and began really thinking about my program. I had several older horses, two that were difficult to keep weight on, and another that was frequently choking on her pellets if they weren't fed to her very slowly. Maybe "great" wasn't the right word.
I switched all of my horses to Cavalor three months ago and have been absolutely thrilled. I'm no longer feeding supplements. My thin ones have picked up weight in spite of it being winter. And I have not had a single choking incident. I'm also very happy with how much the horses like it, even the ones that were never good eaters are excited at feeding time.
Thank you Cavalor for your contributions to equine nutrition and thank you to my Cavalor representative, Libby Cifuni for convincing me to make the change."

We have a mare that has difficulty focusing and needs a fair amount of grain and forage to stay in good weight. A professional rider we respect recommended feeding Cavalor® Pianissimo and we have had wonderful success. Cavalor has given us the horse we always knew was "in there"! We also use Cavalor® Performix and Cavalor® Strucomix Senior as a top dress for our other eventers. The horses love Cavalor feeds and they thrive on them.
Bob and Katherine Thornton
"I made the switch and I mainly use Cavalor® Strucomix Senior as a base feed because it puts the weight on the horses without making them hot. Cavalor® Strucomix Senior is also great for the young horses because it helps them bloom without affecting their minds." Jenny Carbonari, coach and trainer.
"My 20-year-old Irish horse has always had a super course coat and I put him on the Cavalor® Strucomix Senior and his coat is amazing now, and his weight looks great. He loves that feed; it makes his day." Kristi Clarkson, upper level event ride
"I'm feeding Cavalor® Strucomix Senior to my 9-year-old. She is a very picky eater and she eats it like it's cotton candy, she loves it." Tanya Ledetter, Barrel Racer
"I feed Cavalor® Strucomix Original and Cavalor® Strucomix Senior to my horses. I originally switched because you can actually see what is in the feed; you can identify the ingredients and it's not bogged down with molasses. One of my horses is 24 and he used to eat so much of his feed and leave it, but he doesn't leave the Cavalor. I'm happy with his feed bucket empty at night." Lynn Doki Camina, Dressage Trainer.
"Sort of as an experiment I switched two of our horses, one being Brianne's [Goutal] oldest horses, he's about 17 now. We had trouble keeping weight on without him getting fat, we moved him over to the Cavalor® Strucomix Senior and Cavalor® Perfomix and then added Cavalor® Superforce in the mix later as well. The change alone in his coat is amazing. We've tried everything, Omega 3, but now he's dabbled and not that mousy brown. He looks as good as our stallion and that says a lot for me." - Tatiana Gabrush, Manager for International Show Jumper Brianne Goutal
"My 25-year-old mare started chocking and I spoke with my local Cavalor rep because she's also a really picky eater. My rep suggested I try Cavalor for Trilly and my other horse, Handsome, who's energy was never where I wanted it to be. Trilly loves the feed and nickers for her food. Her coat also looks great. Handsome is starting to put on muscle and gain a topline without getting hot. The horses love it and their energy is where it needs to be."

Tamara mailed us pictures of her horse before and after she gave him Cavalor Senior Strucomix. In August, her horse was too thin so she started giving Floyd Senior Strucomix. Barely a few months later, she had a beautiful, muscled horse in top condition.
"Enclosed are 3 pictures of my horse Floyd.
The first one is from last August and the other two are from April this year. Quite a change right?
I have been feeding him with aprox. 6,61 kg a day with the Senior Strucomix and in between I have given him Muscle Force, Oilmega and Arti Base.
I must say I am EXTREMELY pleased with the outcome of the Cavalor products"
We've got a mail from a very enthusiastic Cavalor customer, Suzanna Hayward, who has a small breeding stud of Spanish Arabian horses in Northern France.
"I've been using Cavalor feed for over 5 years now, I'm always satisfied with the quality and so are my horses! My stallion Amoroso de Salvadora competes in jumping, dressage, showing and endurance. He gets Cavalor Strucomix while he's on rest and Cavalor Perfomix while working. He always looks fantastic and has a beautiful shiny coat. Amoroso will be competing at the World Championships in Paris in November in the senior stallion class. He will surely be the oldest horse to participate at nearly 18 years old, but he certainly doesn't look or act his age!
My broodmares are getting Cavalor ProBreed. Whilst in foal and lactating, the mares stay in great condition and the foals grow at a steady rate.
I really like the products of Cavalor, not only do the horses find them very palatable, they are already enriched with the right supplements needed for each discipline and give a fantastic and consistent quality. Cavalor is the best feed that is available for my horses and has the best range of options for all types of horses and all disciplines!"
Additional Information & Education
HIGH DIGESTIBILITY THROUGH PUFFED GRAINS
By puffing grains we are able to improve the starch digestibility in the foregut from an average of 5-50% to 85-90%. These grains travel through the stomach and small intestine at a slower rate, allowing the digestive enzymes more time to act on the feed. More nutrients in the feed are released for the horse to absorb while avoiding any rapid releases of sugar and starch, which is critical for horses with metabolic issues.
COMPLETE VITAMINS AND MINERALS PROFILE
Not only do we use a balanced blend of high quality vitamins and minerals, but we are always careful to use the most stable versions. While the vitamins we use are always in the most stable form, the minerals we use are always in the most absorbable form.
NOT ONLY FOR SENIOR HORSES
Strucomix Senior is a great feed for underweight horses, as well as for pregnant mares as it contains 14% protein from high quality protein sources.
Research has revealed strong evidence that the active components in the yucca root have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Antioxidants protect the horse's cells against free radicals - molecules produced at the cellular level when the horse's body breaks down feed.
