Ann Poels: European Champion!

Published: 2007-08-01

Ann Poels (28) from the Rawhide Ranch at Herentals (Be) became recently European Reining Champion in Austria. No surprise for the insiders, as she was the highest ranked European rider (6th place) at the World Equestrian Games at Aken (picture). Although Poels had the best cards for the gold medal, she did need the “luck of the day” and she had to compete against about 40 competitors. Poels obtained a total score of 220.5 points pointing out that she made only few mistakes.

Poels rode Little Royal BH again, the horse that was kindly put to her availability by the Baeck family. Her husband Bernard Fonck was also present, but this time not in the arena. Fonck’s horse has been withdrawn for competition as it is used for breeding purposes. Little royal BH will soon also be used to produce offspring, “after September” mentioned Poels. “We will take part in one big competition on Mallorca and than Little Royal BH will also be used for breeding. “That’s the way in goes in Reining; the value of her offspring will increase when you have obtained a European title” according to Poels.

Reining is a discipline that requests concentration and a very good condition of the horse. The horses of the European champion therefore receive Cavalor Muscle Fit and Cavalor Arti Matrix on a regular basis.
