Electromyographic changes of motor unit activity in horses with induced hypocalcemia and hypomagnesemia

Published: 2002-12-31

Brief content of the article
The authors studied whether electromyographic abnormalities are evident in skeletal muscles in 7 healthy horses with induced hypocalcemia and hypomagnesemia. The horses in the study did not show classical signs of hypocalcemia and hypomagnesemia but calcium and magnesium appear to have consequences as the horses had spontaneous activity in the measured muscles indicating of nerve hyperirritatability. The authors suggested that there findings were of interest for equestrian sports in which these phenomena are expected (endurance).
