Effects of feeding level on follicular growth and certain plasma hormone levels in the mare.

Published: 2004-12-21

Brief content of the abstract
The aim of this study was to quantify the effects of feeding on the follicular development and circulating plasma LH, FSH, oestrogens, progesterone, insulin-like growth factor-1 and IGF binding protein concentrations in pony mares. For that 11 months before the actual experiment, 10 mares were well fed while 10 others had a restricted diet. Overall conclusion was that follicular development and plasma levels of reproductive hormones are dramatically
modified by a long-term restricted diet in horses.
