Puffed cereals are heat-treated, disentangling up to 90% of the starch. This makes the cereals twice as digestible compared to unprocessed cereals. Puffed cereals have many other benefits compared to unprocessed cereals, such as slower release of energy, fewer sugar peaks, lower risk of digestive problems like colic or gastric ulcers, more nutrients and energy in a smaller amount of feed, more flavour, longer gastric retention, and slower release in the small intestine.
