Fat free mass is related to one-mile race performance in elite standardbred horses
Published: 2002-12-31
Brief content of the article
The authors examined whether the body composition of horses was predictive of competitive success in elite standardbrads. Several measures on rump fat and muscle fat were executed and correlated to age, gender, bodymass, fat-free bodymass. The results indicated correlations and tendencies between fat free mass and race time. A guest editorial by D. Hodgson in the same issue discusses also the application of the results presented in the previous study (page 223-225)
