The objective of this study was to determine if supplemental Silicon (Si) would increase plasma Si concentrations and alter systemic markers of bone turnover in 20 yearling horses. Two equal groups were formed. One group was supplemented with Si and the other group functioned as a control (non-supplemented). Various blood samples were taken and were analysed for several parameters. The authors concluded that the results of this study indicated that supplementation did increase plasma Si concentration but may have decreased bone resorption.
